Villa Transfer Activity Expected

Phil Mepham, head of Communications at Villa, says Villa aren’t going to panic buy or rush in the transfer market.

He told the Birmingham Mail that activity is due in the next few weeks but if they have to wait to get the right players, they will.

With Villa fans trawling the net to find even the slightest hint of a transfer – and mostly coming up with David Villa links to Chelsea it must be said! – Phil has explained:

‘It would be fair to assume that he would want the crux of his additions in by July 4 when the players return. But he is a manager who would rather not rush things through. If it is the right bloke then he would wait until, say, July 18. There is no desperate rush to get things sorted. It is all very relaxed.’

Relaxed? Relaxed? We’re on bloody tenderhooks here Phil!!!!!!! 😉

He was also asked if Martin O’Neill was refusing to pay inflated prices to which he replied: ‘It absolutely could well be. There are loads of possible reasons why. He may have identified the players he wants and may already know that they want to come, and there may be ones he has identified who don’t. Maybe he is waiting for those who do to get back off holiday – I don’t know. At the moment things are extremely quiet.’

And on the supposed Nigel Reo-Coker bid, Mepham has agreed with West Ham boss Alan Curbishley saying there has been no bid to date adding ‘If there was ever any credence to the Reo-Coker reports that Villa wanted to sign him, then that would not happen anyway while he is away with the under-21s.’

So there you go, patience is the cross Villa fans (and lets be fair, fans at most clubs really) will just have to bear a bit longer! Anyway, I’m on holiday June 26th and every time I go away, loads happens at Villa, so you’ve only a week or so to wait, or if you are that desperate, have a whip round and send me away earlier!
