According to the Daily Mail, amongst others, Martin O’Neill is lining up a bid for Reading striker Kevin Doyle who has also been linked to Chelsea. Thread in our forum about Doyle: Click Here

Doyle this season has made 19 starts and come off the bench in another game. He has been replaced 6 times and has five premiership goals. Fellow Reading striker David Kitson has 8 PL goals in 16 starts and 2 bench appearances.

The Daily Mail also claim we will move for Arsenal right-back Justin Hoyte. A right-back for Villa? Now there’s a thought!

Other reports suggest out of favour goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen could move to Derby County for around £1m. Conversley Derby’s 19-year-old midfielder Giles Barnes has again been linked to Villa for around £3.5million.

The Guadian meanwhile says that Villa have been alerted to the possible availability of Spurs striker Jermain Defoe who has been told by manager Ramos that he can leave.

The report says that O’Neill has been a long time admirer of the England international player and that the valuation will not put him off. According to Defoe, in an interview with the Sun, ‘The manager has said I can leave if I want ? but I want to prove him wrong. I want to stay here.’ Adding he thought the manager had called him in to tell him he was playing in the Carling Cup, ‘But he just said ‘You can leave if you want to’. Yet I have no intentions of leaving this club because I love it here. I would love to sign a new contract, and I know people at the top of the club want me to stay. But no-one can expect me to sign a new deal if I can’t get a game.’

Surely if he wants to stay, he’ll have to sign a deal ??!!
