Ok, so the horrible part of the football transfer links first…!
Our very own James Milner, who lets face it, will be linked with all and sundry until the transfer window closes at the end of August, was the subject of more press column inches this weekend as the Sunday People claimed that both Chelsea and Manchester City wanted the England midfielder.
The Daily Mail today pick up on the same link. The price talked about was around £24million. That is around double what we paid for him. Maybe if they quadruple it then the sale would be good for Villa, until then, they can get lost can’t they!? The players stock is certainly high at the moment after a great season in the centre of midfield for us and will be even higher after the World Cup I bet. Man City apparently want to bid quickly because Fabio Capello has said that players can’t negotiate transfers and contracts during the World Cup. The paper says that MON will try to resist but pick up on the need to sell a few players in order to buy. Not totally true that. He will sell fringe players who are no longer required and will be bringing in new faces. Randy has already said that he expects James to be a Villa player come the new season though. All down to the manager and what he wants to do and unless any first teamer really plays their face up, I can’t see him wanting any to leave?
Another report claims Villa will hold out for £30million for Milner.
The Sunday Mercury said that PSV Eindhoven are likely to take back Wilfred Bouma who is available on a free. Bouma`s agent Ger Lagendijk said: ‘He would like to stay in England but deep in his heart he would prefer to return to PSV. After all the injuries he is now ready for a fresh start.’
And now for one in!
The Mirror say that both Villa and Liverpool are interested in 26-year-old West Ham striker Carlton Cole. Apparently West Ham turned down a £10million bid from Birmingham City. The report says that MON is a big fan and has been in contact this week to try to put a deal together.

26 league appearances, 10 goals this season and last.
Sort of makes sense, he is a big, tough player who also has a great turn of speed. Would that improve on what we have? Well, Heskey got 3 goals last term in the league and John Carew 10.
