Vital Villa world exclusive. Villa will sign a player sometime in the next 60 days. A source close to the made up story said there might even be 2, 3 or 4 signings. Another source close to the club (he lives in Birmingham) was shocked that so few were mentioned and believes five new players could be on their way.

The News of the World today say that as of July 1 Spurs midfielder David Bentley will be a Villa player. The former Blackburn Rovers winger has had a tough time at White Hart Lane since his move last summer and the report suggests he’ll end his spell there and join Villa who were also in for him last year. The 24-year-old, who has seven caps for England, will cost around half of the £15million fee Spurs paid for him according to the red top…. when I say red top, I mean the paper, not that the player has yet another hair style!

The News of the World reporter Rob Beasley, a 34 page brochure has been sent out to eight Premiership clubs by Michael Owen to remind them how good the England and soon to be former Newcastle striker is. The report says It is believed to be the first time in Premier League history that a player has produced his own prospectus to prompt a transfer.

The paper claim it has been circulated by his management company Wasserman Media Group and sent to clubs including Aston Villa, Everton, Portsmouth, Spurs, Manchester City and West Ham. Apparently it includes a medical report, the fact he has commercial value and discusses his goalscoring record.

They quote WMG’s COO Sam Rush: ‘Although there’s been interest from abroad, Michael told us he’d prefer to stay in the Prem. So after the season ended, we prepared a document showing all the information an interested club would require and this was circulated to a select group.’ He adds that Owen has appeared in 77% of Newcastle’s games in the last 2 seasons… forgetting that in one of those seasons Newcastle went down !?

As you’ll see in the article, not only has he had hamstring and groin injuries, he also broke his metatarsal which kept him out for five months and tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the World Cup 2006.

The Express say that Portsmouth will have to sell off their star players if the takeover by Abu Dhabi businessman Sulaiman Al-Fahim falls through. They name Glen Johnson and former Villa and Liverpool striker Peter Crouch as the most likely to be offloaded to help pay off their debts. A return to Villa for Crouch maybe?

  • players i would like us to sign-Bentley,Downing,Owen,Vagnor Love, Defour,Beckham (if we can), and Bojan, a class act

  • Bentley is technically a Fantastic player. He will do well for you if he gets regular football. the main reason he failed at spurs was perhaps he was trying a bit too hard as he was a boy wood fan. Also our Bad start meant he was not really settled and Lennon’s brilliant form meant that he never got a run in the team. But he might be a huge bargain for 8 million or so as he is qualtiy

  • i think the Owen ‘manuscript’ is hilarious Fear! unsure what it is intended to accomplish?? is the guy a business?? or a kitchen appliance?? apparently there is mention along the lines of ‘….if not for an unhappy time at Real madrid and 2 years injury at barcodes, he’d be spoken about like Torres, etc…’ sounds like an ad for a product i don’t want or need. like, see – see , buy now!! ugh! next please.. hey Paulo Ferreira is goin cheap?! heh.

  • interesting yid from india, must admit I can’t see he has become a bad player in just one season so hope that your loss will be our gain!

  • seems a very strange one doesn’t it leftfoot?!?! Wonder if it will set a trend? Maybe he should put himself on ebay?!?!?!

  • yeah its weird….kind of naff when its trying to be modern or something?! putting him on ebay is a super idea, but i don’t know if i’d have him as a ‘watched item’!!

  • upson and scharner naughton to beef up our defensive options bentley, delph, huddlestone, barnes to beef up our midfield and owen and sturridge to beef up our attack 1 foreign in there all for under 40 milion sound good anyone

  • That is more like it! I like it when we are being linked to players that look like logical MON buys. My Nephew (who must be close to a source!) told me about a month ago that Bentley will be coming to Villa as soon as the transfer window opens. I think its great news! I think MON would be great for him. Build up his confidence, get him back to England team standard, and in the frame for next years WC. I hope we get Upson too. MON is brilliant at managing these kind of young Brit players! Bring um all in Martin! Six players in before the end of July, and then you can have another weeks holiday before the season starts proper with our blessing!

  • upson might be good..If MON can do his magic on Bentley then it will add to what we have so I say sign him up, doesn’t look like a done deal to me though

  • Upson is an enemy agent, I think Bentley has an attitude problem, and it’s feared that Owen is damaged goods. Over to you MON, cos if you can sort that lot out you are a total genius and we are heading to the top 4! By the way, I still think a fit Owen is a mouth watering prospect playing off Carew/Heskey, Upson is solid, Bentley can play when he wants to and all 3 could be sound business at £12-15m including a sign on fee for Owen. Bojan Krcic, jimjim96? could work out on loan, perhaps. A Good shout, but he won’t leave Barca if Eto’o goes.

  • I like the Scharner idea, too, clarkamus, hard as nails and versatile. reports today Sturridge is Chelsea bound.

  • Problem one, Spurs have just rejected a bid for Zokora because it was 2m short of what they are holding out for. Why would they accept a bid at half the price from one of our smaller but aspiring competitors.

  • hahahah teddylyon, villa smaller than spurs, dont make me laugh you muppet. ever won the european cup? erm what? your stadium is 5000 seats smaller? interesting. idiot.

  • Clarkamus….tend to agree with you:”upson and scharner naughton to beef up our defensive options bentley, delph, huddlestone, barnes to beef up our midfield and owen and sturridge to beef up our attack” However, disagree with Delph as know nothing about him. Barnes would be a good buy but no to Huddlestone, NRC is just as good. I would like KRANCJAAR to compliment Petrov and he is as good as Barry in my opinion.
