With Jesus Garcia Pitarch getting his feet under his Sporting Director desk at Aston Villa following his appointment, our ‘Three Amigos’ in the shape of head coach Dean Smith, assistant head coach Richard O’Kelly and coach John Terry have quickly swapped their offices for the Bodymoor Heath training pitches.

With former manager Steve Bruce not being known for his training pitch outings, preferring to leave coaching to his backroom boys, seeing Smith out on the grass with his staff and more directly getting his message over to the players we don’t have on international duty, has gone over extremely well with the fans who already seem to like his more hands-on approach to things.

Fans also took the chance to remind Terry there was still a place in the team for him if he wanted!

Early days for sure, and we clearly have a lot of work still to do when it comes to improvements and allowing Smith time to get his message over to the players with the changes that he wants, but it’s already a good message to be sending about being in it together.

For those players who rightly, or wrongly, didn’t feel they were overly in our plans before it gives them the chance to directly impress under Smith’s eyes as well and that can only be a good thing as they get a clean slate, but some of them have to accept, clean slate or not, it’s about time they earned their money as they didn’t take their previous opportunities did they.
