Villa Verdict – Not At The Races

Caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald has admitted Villa were just not at the races today, but he refused to blame John Carew’s penalty miss as the turning point of the game.

Speaking on the Official Site following the horrendous 6-0 battering Big Mac regretted deeply the fact we couldn’t capitalise on the first half hour where we were all over Newcastle.

‘We weren’t anywhere near at the races. You can never say the whole thing turned on the penalty miss. I think it helped change the momentum.’

There’s obviously no criticism of certain players lack of performance, so to be honest there’s not much else to say.

Big Mac moves on, as must we all, to focus on the home leg of the Rapid clash.

‘This is the other side of it. I wasn’t thinking how fantastic it was then (Wet Spam) and how bad it is now. The most important thing is that I can manage to get those players back up again to try and play on Thursday night.’

And, erm, well that’s your lot really short of praising Stephen Ireland for his fitness levels considering his lack of football recently.
