We are weighing up a loan move for Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, according to the Sun on Sunday (via the Birmingham Mail).

With Sam Johnstone unlikely to return to the club once his loan spell from Manchester United ends, the club will be seeking a new number one.

Whether the Romanian international has the ability to fill the shoes of our current custodian, it is debatable.

Pantilimon is currently Watford’s third choice keeper, behind Orestis Karnezis and Heurelho Gomes, and had spells on loan at both Deportivo La Coruna and Nottingham Forest last campaign.

He failed to make an impact at Depor in the first half of the season, but the 6ft 8in stopper did impress for Forest after moving to the City Ground in January.

The 31-year-old did say in April that he would be interested in a permanent move to the Reds, but he may now have other potential options if our interest turns out to be genuine.
