Villa Will Have No Problems Scoring

Martin O’Neill says he is excited about the potential of Villa and says scoring will not be a problem.

He said: ‘I am very excited about this team. I think we have the capabilities of attacking and, more importantly, attacking with great pace. I think Newcastle were wary of that but they were unable to stop us doing it. That was very pleasing from my perspective. It’s very early on in the season and we’ve only played a couple of games. We played very well in pre-season but were a bit stodgy against Liverpool, even though we were a couple of minutes away from getting a result. We’re just getting into a rhythm though and it will take more than a couple of games to get right up to speed.’

Promising, ‘I think we’re going to be exciting this season and that’s the way we want it. If we can keep a bit of strength at the back too, I’m absolutely confident we will score at the other end. One point from two games might not seem a great deal but they were a couple of very difficult matches. Liverpool will be contesting the Premiership title without question and Newcastle are vying for a place in Europe.’

If Big John can follow through on his international goals last night, maybe we’ll start to see the confidence in the team, it must be tough as a defender when the strikers aren’t scoring the other end as the pressure is heaped on them not to concede.

Hope O’Neill is right about goals, we still look one top striker short of a good season to me, but then again, he’s a million pound a year manager and I’m not!
