Martin O’Neill tried to take the positives out of the game following our last minute loss to Manchester United yesterday.
He told the Villa website:
‘That was very hard to take. We were splendid throughout the game. We went behind and came roaring back to take the lead – and deservedly so. The equalising goal went through someone’s legs and left Brad unsighted – that can happen in a game. But for the winner it was a definite foul on Ashley in the corner beforehand. The linesman was looking at it from about a yard and a half away and refused to give it – and so did the referee.’
A foul done by a Manchester United player? Don’t be daft, Man Utd players don’t foul opponents, or if they do it is obviously in the rules they are allowed to as free-kicks aren’t awarded!
He also bemoaned the 5 minutes of injury time saying ‘psychologically it was a blow’.
‘To come out of the game with something would have been a major boost but we haven’t done. The irony of it all was I thought we were fantastic – really brilliant.’
MON says Villa will get ‘great confidence’ from the performance, hopefully enough to fuel us until the end of the season with a decent run starting with Everton!
Promising that although Arsenal are now 6 points ahead, Villa are still ‘in there fighting.’
