19-year-old striker Mooney is a familiar name for those of us who follow Kevin MacDonald’s Under 23 side closely, and he is the son of former Watford and Birmingham City striker Tommy Mooney who now coaches at Villa Park according to the BBC which was something I didn’t know – well, one of the many things I don’t know to be fair.
In 2018/19 Mooney has found the back of the net on three occasions so the time is right for him to step up to the professional levels now and test himself at a greater level than Under 23 football can offer him.
It will be his first loan spell away from the club so when he takes to the pitch for the Whaddon Road outfit it will be his senior bow in the professional game and I’m sure he’s relishing the opportunity to make his mark.
The loan is only until January and then we can reassess things depending on how he’s done and what kind of game time he has received.
Woweeee!
