Aston Villa’s young striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy had been named on the Premier League 2 Player of the Month shortlist for the month of April and he was joined on that list by colleague Jack Clarke.

He’s only gone and won it!

Our Under 23 star scored six goals in total across the month of April in both Premier League 2 Division 2 and Premier League Cup ties. As followers of our Under 23 set up will know, Hepburn-Murphy more than played his part in our league winning streak that put the pressure on Blackburn Rovers in top spot but ultimately we fell short just at the line – our Play-Off spot was secured for the year, however. Villa have also lifted the Cup trophy this season taking a penalty victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

In terms of the specifics for RHP, he opened the month with a brace at Stoke City, before netting a brace late on in the Cup tie against Middlesbrough. Again in Cup action, he hit another double as we beat Division 1 opponents Leicester City in the semi-finals to take a 3-2 victory.

The 19-year-old’s form didn’t end there as he followed April with a Play-Off semi-final goal against Reading, which set us up for this Saturday’s Final against Brighton at Villa Park.

Well deserved indeed and it’s not the first time RHP has taken this particular honour as he won it last season as well.
