Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie, currently on loan at Stoke, has said he still wants a chance to prove himself at Villa.

‘There’s no doubt I’d rather be putting the claret and blue shirt on every week, but it wasn’t to be. So the gaffer just told me to go out and get some games. The door’s still open for me. Playing football is something that I love and Villa is where I belong.’

‘It’s where I’ve spent a big part of my life. Being away definitely makes me want to get back into the team, without a shadow of a doubt. I obviously want the boys to be doing well every week and they are. I’m really pleased about that and I’m always checking out the results. I’m definitely looking to come back and try and make an impact if I can.’

He says of his time at the Potters ‘It’s been excellent. I’m back playing football again and that’s what I wanted to do. It was a bit of a gamble, because my confidence was low and if I hadn’t performed at that league, no disrespect, it would have been a bit difficult. People would have maybe judged me and said I wasn’t good enough for that standard. But I’ve really enjoyed it.’

Meanwhile the former England midfielder has been linked to a transfer swoop by Iain Dowie’s Charlton Athletic who are expected according to one report to bid in the region of £1million. Sorry Dowie, not enough.

Vital Villa did a poll on whether Hendrie should be recalled, the results were 46% saying yes, 10% saying not yet, 16% voted that he should see out his loan spell, 24% that he shouldn’t be recalled and that he should be sold leaving 4% who were unsure. Full poll details
