Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie, currently on loan at Stoke, has said he still wants a chance to prove himself at Villa.

‘There’s no doubt I’d rather be putting the claret and blue shirt on every week, but it wasn’t to be. So the gaffer just told me to go out and get some games. The door’s still open for me. Playing football is something that I love and Villa is where I belong.’

‘It’s where I’ve spent a big part of my life. Being away definitely makes me want to get back into the team, without a shadow of a doubt. I obviously want the boys to be doing well every week and they are. I’m really pleased about that and I’m always checking out the results. I’m definitely looking to come back and try and make an impact if I can.’

He says of his time at the Potters ‘It’s been excellent. I’m back playing football again and that’s what I wanted to do. It was a bit of a gamble, because my confidence was low and if I hadn’t performed at that league, no disrespect, it would have been a bit difficult. People would have maybe judged me and said I wasn’t good enough for that standard. But I’ve really enjoyed it.’

Meanwhile the former England midfielder has been linked to a transfer swoop by Iain Dowie’s Charlton Athletic who are expected according to one report to bid in the region of £1million. Sorry Dowie, not enough.

Vital Villa did a poll on whether Hendrie should be recalled, the results were 46% saying yes, 10% saying not yet, 16% voted that he should see out his loan spell, 24% that he shouldn’t be recalled and that he should be sold leaving 4% who were unsure. Full poll details

  • If he stopped acting the prat stopped night clubbing (seen him in hush a few years back an all night place) he might be an asset.

  • Okay, a decent player for the squad….but if we’re to hit the heights then we must aim higher than keeping a stale midfielder like Hendrie. This boy’s been larging it up Braod Street since he got his fist YTS paycheck at VP. I think his service has been

  • A young man in a nightclub?? Disgraceful. He should be at home, tucked up with a cup of Horlicks. That is what I used to do when I was younger …….. honest!!!!!!!!!! UTV

  • You’re right Bobbyfett. Voiceoftheholte – we wall do go out and went out alot when we were younger but you know as well as I do that Hendrie has done more than his fair share and his reputation has been eating away at his career for years….All top fligh

  • P.S. Just saw the SkySports coverage of the 96 coaches going to CFC!!!! Nice! Randy is doing a PR job of the utmost calibre without hogging any limelight…what a star…soon the top top players will be wanting to come here again. No boss, manager, traini

  • It’s hard to see where Hendrie would fit in. We’re well covered in the centre now, with Petrov, McCann, Davis and Osbourne and Barry can fill in there if needed. I’m sure MON will be buying a right winger in the January sales, so where does that leave Hen

  • Ok may not get back into the first 11, but what about cover? He still scores goals, is more energetic than some but most of all seemed to care about winning. Can’t say that about everyone. Get him back until we are really are so strong that we don’t need

  • It makes so much sense to me to have him back at Villa Park. He’s obviously now match fit, he’s in a rich vein of form, his confidence is high. He can give us options that we dont currently have available. Bring him back, whatever his supposed social fail
