Villa’s Player Of The Season?

And finally, we have the results for our Player of the Season award.

Ladies and gentlemen, in reverse order we have:

Olof Mellberg who has fallen slightly from grace after he won this sites predecessor – Holteenders.co.uk – player of the season award last year. The Sweden international polled just 1% of the votes. I’d not bet on Mellberg being a Villa player come the start of the new season and we will be far worse off for his exit.

Also on 1% was Mark Delaney which is a bit of a shocker because when he returned to the team at Christmas we went on a run of results that ultimately kept us up this season. Injuries have once again blighted his campaign, as did a public fall out with the manager. A possible Villa Park exit this summer?

On loan winger James Milner polled 10% of the votes.

20% voted for midfielder Steven Davis who some are billing as the new Roy Keane.

Milan Baros our top scorer this season and the player most likely to be sold at a profit to fund what Ellis and co can’t, polled 25%.

And the winner, with an impressive 43%, was midfielder (and sometimes left back – where many say he is at his best) Gareth Barry. In my oh so humble opinion, Gareth Barry should be captain of Villa next season, although some criticise his pace, he is a quality player and without his determination this year, I’m positive we would have been relegated. Give yourself a pat on the back Mr Barry and take a bow, John Gregory would be proud of how dirty your shorts have got this season.
