With it known that Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith was set to meet with Suso and CEO Christian Purslow on Wednesday to toast our Championship Play-Off success over Derby County and then get down to the real business of planning for our return to the Premier League, two players confirmed their departures on Thursday.

The first out the door was Academy graduate Harvey Knibbs who took to social media to confirm that he had now penned a new deal at Cambridge United.

The other man out the door was former Middlesbrough winger Albert Adomah. Despite enjoying a rich vein of form in his opening year with us having joined in 2016, and having a fantastic goalscoring record in 2017/18, at the end of the summer there was somewhat of a falling out. Despite that though, he remained with us for the promotion winning campaign of 2018/19 and the 31-year old made 42 appearances across the season, scoring four times, and chipping in with two assists – not least his efforts in the Final itself.

He’s effectively released as a free agent having been informed (via Birmingham Mail) that he won’t be offered a new deal.

He’s not the only one out of contract so fans will wonder what that means for the others given his involvement under Smith but we wish him well. He’ll have no problems finding a new club, that’s for sure even if this season he wasn’t quite as effective as the last one.
