The Sunday Mercury has suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy is interested in taking Villa winger Wayne Routledge on loan as they are struggling with a couple of injuries in their squad.

Apparently McCarthy was at Villa Park on Thursday watching Routledge – who had an ok game – against Litex Lovech in the UEFA Cup draw.

As the Mercury say, the 23-year old former Spurs and Crystal Palace winger has struggled to make any sort of impact since moving for £1.25million last January, so maybe a loan and regular first team football wouldn’t be a bad option for him?

Routledge has one made two sub appearances in the league and the Litex game was his first start. He would fit in nicely to fill the void left at Wolves by injured pair Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis.

Would still really like to see Routledge make a go of it at Villa, at only 23 he has age on his side, but regular first team football to get him up to speed and restore his confidence would surely be a better option that playing mostly just for the reserves?
