Villa’s Travelling Fans Were In For A Treat Against Brighton – Match Stats

After a disappointing defeat to Arsenal last weekend with Unai Emery’s side hitting late on to take all the points, Aston Villa’s midweek EFL Cup third round clash pitted us against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

With a number of changes by head coach Dean Smith, we had a pretty bright start and Jota had opened the scoring for us 22 minutes in. Ten minutes later, Conor Hourihane had doubled our advantage and we went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead.

Just after the hour mark, the hosts did get on the scoresheet themselves but we continued to massively dominate the game in terms of possession and chances overall. Having been brought on as a substitute, Jack Grealish got his name on the scoresheet with just over ten minutes remaining in the game to make it 3-1.

That’s how it finished, through to the next round we go.
