Wilfred Bouma has admitted he would like to extend his stay at Aston Villa and talks are expected soon.

Bouma, joining up with the Dutch squad for the summer’s Euro 2008 finals, is at the end of his current deal with Villa able to trigger a one year option. Martin O’Neill has already said that they want to do more than just take up that option.

Wilf, a player who has gone from strength to strength since joining Villa under David O’Leary, said:

‘In my time here we have gone from 16th to 11th to sixth, which is a massive improvement. My performances have gone the same way as well and hopefully I can continue that after the summer.’

Adding, ‘The extension to my contract is already there and there will be some talks in the coming weeks. I think we will get it sorted. The manager said it will be for two or three years so we will see what happens. I’m very pleased with how things are going and we shall see what the deal brings.’

Got to be our most improved player this season?
