Connerz1874 is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

I had a big interest in football and particularly Villa from a young age. This was made concrete at the age of six when my uncle (ironically a Bluenose) swallowed his pride and took me to Villa Park. We beat Man City three one with my hero Cyrille Regis scoring and stood on the Holte that day my love for the Villa was born!

2) What is your favourite Villa moment of all time/most treasured memory?

Both League Cup wins were amazing but in terms of games I attended (I didn’t have a season ticket back then so my Cup Final record is two defeats!), Athletico Madrid, the 2-0 defeat of Chelsea and the 5-1 derby game!

3) If you could bring back a former Villa player into this team (at his peak) who would it be and why?

No brainer…Martin Laursen! Being a defender myself I have always paid interest to centre backs and he is by far the best I have seen. A rock of a defender who was so accomplished he made his partners look better than they were (Curtis Davies especially and even Zat Knight briefly). A magnet in both boxes, he would make a huge difference to a defence that presently is poor IMO…Lowton apart!

4) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

Pleased with his appointment but admit to having doubts after the Bradford debacle! Four strikers standing on the eighteen yard line all making the same run awaiting a long ball didn’t reflect well on him at the time tactically!

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best- Sunderland

Worst- Bradford at home (more so than Chelsea)

6) Some say last season was a success, others not so much. What is your opinion?

We broke even in my opinion in the sense that Lambert blooded a team with huge potential going forwards with a pleasing philosophy offensively! That said defensively we were shambolic at times and were fortunate that we had goals in the team!

7) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board?

I respect that he realised his money could not compete with Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour so eased up on the spiralling wage bill, etc…His appointments of Houllier and McLeish were equally poor for differing reasons but overall he has the clubs best interests at heart and seems to have learnt from his mistakes by appointing Lambert and showing faith in him post January time!

8) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

Lescott / Dawson / Bassong as a CB if achievable….another wide player and Figeuroa as LB competition.

9) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

N’Zogbia, Hutton, Dunne, Bannan, Albrighton, Bent (for wages), Herd

10) Favourite current player?

Ashley Westwood. The most accomplished passer we have had since Barry and if he keeps level headed and hungry to learn he will be at a Champions League club and in an England shirt within a few years! Great signing and proof of Lambert’s coaching ability as an ex midfielder who was understated but crucial to the teams he played for!

11) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

Cyrille Regis, Dean Saunders, Dwight Yorke, Gareth Southgate, Paul Merson, Olof Mellberg, Ashley Young, Martin Laursen, James Milner

12) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier: 8th (subject to Benteke staying and not sulking) 12th otherwise
FA Cup: 5th Round
Carling: Semi Finals

13) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Has Financial Fair Play helped or hindered? Realistically it’s set up to protect the Man Uniteds of this world so we will never be able to compete for the title again due to respective turnovers!

14) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? Noel Gallagher, a hero of mine who is charismatic, funny, intellegent and talks sense about football going on his talksport interviews!

Michelle Keegan…different reasons 🙂

b) Age 28
c) Location: Melbourne, soon to be Sheldon again!
d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Sol
e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Orange juice
f) Favourite Film/s: The Dark Night, Terminator 2, Inception, Anchorman
g) Favourite TV Show/s: Father Ted, The Office, The Inbetweeners, Gavin and Stacey, Breaking Bad, Homeland
h) Music?: Oasis, Noel Gallagher, Coldplay, Biffy Clyro
i) Best ever moment in your life: Travelling Australia the past four months.
j) Ambitions: Raise a family…have a son who plays for Villa!
k) Wise words: Visit Australia…an amazing country!
