Daveyboyr is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Born and Bread. My grandpa went to his first game in 1922 and his Father some time pre 1900. On my cot as a baby my Grandpa put a “this ones a Villian” Yosemite Sam sticker. I know this because it`s still on there with my little-un in it.

2) What is your favourite Villa moment of all time/most treasured memory?

Warning this is a bit of a dark.

I`d have to say buying my Grandpa a season ticket for his 90th Birthday, he hadn`t had one for a while and was made up. Anyway the first game he could make was at home against Wimbledon and unfortunately he died at Villa park at half time from a heart attack.

There`s a running joke in our family that it was Paul Merson’s fault, he had already missed one penalty on 20 minutes or something and we had another on the stroke of half time which was saved by the keeper, he did smash in the rebound but we think the fact it was saved initially a second time was enough.

If I ever meet Merse I going to tell him he killed off my Grandpa.

If your going to GO Villa park is where its got to be and therefore going to Villa park now is real emotional thing for us…

3) If you could bring back a former Villa player into this team (at his peak) who would it be and why?

On the condition that because I`m bringing him back I could get to speak to him it would have to be Paul Merson so I could tell him he killed off my Grandpa.

Otherwise Platty (Ok he`s a bit of a tool now) but 20+ goals from midfield, yes please.

4) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

I personally couldn`t be happier with the direction he has taken the football club in if we are ever going to have any success especially with the fair play rules coming in and people spending crazy money it`s to do what Lambert has done. Hopefully we are ahead of the curve. I just hope we don`t get pummelled in the first 3 matches next season to stop the doomsayers start saying…

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

Worst – December / Bradford. Best – Sunderland, took a mate who doesn`t like football, he bought a Villa shirt after the match :]]

6) Some say last season was a success, others not so much. What is your opinion?

Success is dependent on what your goals are some fans have unrealistic or short term goals. I`m pretty sure that he hit his goals (Just) and that they were focused or more long term aspects. He made massive changes quickly, it was a gamble but we will be better for it in the wrong run. Success for me but I hope the goals are a little higher this year.

7) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board?

He has put way more money in than the predecessor and has tried to be a good custodian of the club in my opinion. In life you make mistakes he realised it in he who shall not be named and what I liked about RL is he waited until the end of the season to get rid of him but he then acted quickly. I think he`s learned from his mistakes and I`m proud to have him as the owner. He also did great things like £200 season tickets which allowed me to afford one at the time thanks RL.

8) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

A quality attacking midfielder and a quality replacement for Benteke if he goes :[ I`ve given up guessing with Lambert.

9) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Usual suspects – Ireland, Given, Hutton, Bannan and Bent… I quite liked bent and he has my respect for not behaving like a child because he wasn`t picked.

10) Favourite current player?

For me its Lowton, I think Lowton dragged us through towards the end of the season i.e. Stoke goal and the set up for the second against sunderland was outstanding. Needs to get better defensively but he was great and looks like he really cares too.

11) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

Allan Evans purely based on the sweatbands. Toney Daley has to be one of my all time favourites because whenever he got the ball the whole stadium stood up even if it was in the opposition penalty area. The only other two players to have that energy since for me were Ashley Young and Dwight Yorke.

12) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier: 7th
FA Cup: 5th
Capital One: Final

13) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Do you have a second favourite team? Nope.

14) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? None
b) Age 36
c) Location: Reigate
d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Literally anything except Bailey`s. Nasty stuff.
e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: coffee
f) Favourite Film/s: Heat, District 9, Pans Labyrinth in that order.
g) Favourite TV Show/s: Breaking Bad, truly awesome!
h) Music?: Anything as long as its extreme and or not for the cretins…
i) Best ever moment in your life: I will probably get myself into serious trouble if I put that here…
j) Ambitions: 1st option – Own the villa and sink every penny I have into it. If unaffordable option 2 – buy Birmingham city for £1 and burn small heath to the ground.
k) Wise words: It really is a waste of life to hit refresh all summer for the last three years every 10 minutes on the villa news aggregator website. It`s also dangerous to do it while driving.

  • I’ll just make 1 comment on my own interview and that’s that it was submitted pre-benteke gate and Lowton was my faveroute current player then and now.
