tvrwhitey is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Couldn’t say exactly to the date that I became a Villa fan, but my treasured first Villa memory was, 1977 The League Cup. 0-0 at Wembley, 1-1 at Sheffield and eventual winners at Old Trafford 3-2 against Everton.

2) What is your favourite Villa moment of all time/most treasured memory?

Savo’s goal at Wembley in 1996, unfortunately I didn’t get to go to the European Cup final or else I suppose that would have been obvious choice. Matthew Lowtons goal at Villa park was special against Swansea this season.

3) If you could bring back a former Villa player into this team (at his peak) who would it be and why?

Andy Gray, such an exciting and sometimes unpredictable character, but always committed to put his head in if there was a sniff of goal. Modern day, Stan Collymore but with less drama.

4) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

Walked the tightrope last season, I really hope we move on from last season but I think Paul is the right person for the job under the current wage restraints at Villa park. I think he is doing as good a job as is possible. Seems to have an eye for a talented player like MON and unfortunately a few bad purchases too, like MON. Lets hope the top six beckons again and that this time we move on from it. I would like to think we can finish further up the table and not survive just because the teams below us are worse

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best has to be the win against Sunderland, what a game. Worst the exit to Bradford at home was shameful and the Huge loss to Chelsea. Come to think of it the Man United crumble from a 2-0 lead. There was so many bad moments.

6) Some say last season was a success, others not so much. What is your opinion?

Success is based on continued development, not bumping along at the bottom dicing with relegation. Success has not shown its face at Villa park since the Ron Atkinson days. We may have had some good times under Gregory and MON, but success is based on silverware, but then again it has to be balanced with league performance too. I wouldn’t say Wigan had success despite winning the FA Cup

7) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board?

Jekyll and Hyde. Can’t help think he is more of a business man than a fan.

8) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

If Benteke leaves AND I think he now will, Andy Carroll. I’d still love a Scott Parker type of player, don’t think we have had one since Paul Merson. Oh I can but dream to have a Paul Merson back in the Villa side.

9) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Just one ???? Has to be Stephen Ireland. BUT surely it is time for a clear out ? Hutton, Ireland, Bent, Albrighton, Bannan, Holman, Given and Herd would all go if I had my choice

10) Favourite current player?

Toss up between Weimann and Westwood.

11) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

First one was Billy Bremner at Leeds United. All time hero, Kevin Keegan, oh I soooo wanted him to join Villa and Shearer too. Add to that list Andy Gray.

12) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier: 10th
FA Cup: 5th round
Carling: Last 16

13) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Why do I still support the Villa despite all the grief they give me over the years ?

The memories of the Cup wins and the League. 1977 to 1996, there were some good memories AND the slight glimmer of hope that ONE day in my life time that we will get back to that success.

14) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

Is there life outside football ? I hate the close season, Football and Villa are my life. Apart from that I have a lovely wife and daughter that I know I am truly blessed to have

  • Should have said the reason why the Lowton goal at Villa park against Swansea was special. It was my wifes first visit to Villa Park and what a goal to get her jumping out of her seat. Think I may have turned a Man United fan (only because of Giggs and Be
