Aston Villa 2-0 Birmingham City player ratings by McGrath4Pope

Just back from the pub, says everything that every bluenose in there, both the reasonable ones and the idiots, had to concede that we fully deserved it.

Belated ratings:

Johnstone: 6 – nothing to do.

Elmohamady: 7 – panics me every time he`s in possession but can`t half cross a ball.

Terry: 8 – one slip aside, a proper leader raises all around him to his own high standards.

Chester: 8 – as reliable as ever.

Hutton: 6.5 – committed as ever but very wasteful in possession.

Jedinak: 9 – outstanding. Takes pressure off the defence and allows Grealish and Hourihane to concentrate on attacking safe in the knowledge that all is well behind them.

Hourihane: 8 – hard working as ever. Played his part in dominating midfield. World class goal.

Snodgrass: 8 – relentless work rate. Always looking to make something happen.

Grealish: 9 – ran the game from start to finish. Brilliant in attack but also got stuck in winning the ball back. Outmuscled (the much larger) Ndoye all game. MOTM

Adomah: 8 – hard worker and a constant threat.

Hogan: 9 – if Grealish hadn`t been so outstanding he`d be my MOTM. Relentless work rate, ran the Blues defence ragged.

Subs:

Barney: 7 – worked hard.
Grabban: 7 – looked promising.
Whelan: 7 – did his bit.

Bruce: 10 – after the week he`s had he put out a team that put in a performance that made me genuinely proud to be a fan. Over the last 10 years or so I can only think of the FA Cup semi that came close. Those players played as if they understand what a derby means and what it takes to win one (Jedi, Grealish, Snodgrass and Hogan being shining examples). Seeing players proud to wear the shirt and giving their all – I`d almost given up on seeing it again due to the poison in our dressing room. Steve Bruce has, if nothing else, brought proper professionals worthy of the shirt to this club.

  • Johnstone could have been given a seat to be fair, as you say, he had nothing to do. I think he was sitting down reading a book at one stage! lol

  • Great ratings , MoM should be shared between Grealish and Jedi , both with different jobs both done to perfection, in fact MoM should go to the entire team , a very complete performance.

  • Grealish is getting most the plaudits but I though Jedi was just as important on the day, he was probably MOM for me. When we are up against the more direct teams with big lumps, like Cardiff and Blues he needs to be in the team – he’s tremendous in the a

  • Although Jack was probably deserved as MOTM, I thought Hogan was immense. I haven’t seen a forward work so hard for years. He was everywhere, and fully deserved a goal – his determination when he was sent clear by Jack and cutting across – that deserved b

  • Great performance all round. Think Jack deserves MOTM; the goals came from our constant threat up front and he was behind all that.

  • spot on MF. Remember the many times we discussed whether to bother or not? Or saying we’d best put the fans in the vote as no player deserves it?!

  • Can’t argue with any of that. Although I would give Alan Hutton and extra point just for being Alan Hutton!

  • I think Hourihane deserves two marks. 6 max for general performance (he was pretty anonymous and looked lightweight imho) and 10 minimum for the goal. I was shouting for him to be brought off …. and the rest is history, as they say! I’d obviously be a d
