Aston Villa 2-0 Birmingham City player ratings by McGrath4Pope

Just back from the pub, says everything that every bluenose in there, both the reasonable ones and the idiots, had to concede that we fully deserved it.

Belated ratings:

Johnstone: 6 – nothing to do.

Elmohamady: 7 – panics me every time he`s in possession but can`t half cross a ball.

Terry: 8 – one slip aside, a proper leader raises all around him to his own high standards.

Chester: 8 – as reliable as ever.

Hutton: 6.5 – committed as ever but very wasteful in possession.

Jedinak: 9 – outstanding. Takes pressure off the defence and allows Grealish and Hourihane to concentrate on attacking safe in the knowledge that all is well behind them.

Hourihane: 8 – hard working as ever. Played his part in dominating midfield. World class goal.

Snodgrass: 8 – relentless work rate. Always looking to make something happen.

Grealish: 9 – ran the game from start to finish. Brilliant in attack but also got stuck in winning the ball back. Outmuscled (the much larger) Ndoye all game. MOTM

Adomah: 8 – hard worker and a constant threat.

Hogan: 9 – if Grealish hadn`t been so outstanding he`d be my MOTM. Relentless work rate, ran the Blues defence ragged.

Subs:

Barney: 7 – worked hard.
Grabban: 7 – looked promising.
Whelan: 7 – did his bit.

Bruce: 10 – after the week he`s had he put out a team that put in a performance that made me genuinely proud to be a fan. Over the last 10 years or so I can only think of the FA Cup semi that came close. Those players played as if they understand what a derby means and what it takes to win one (Jedi, Grealish, Snodgrass and Hogan being shining examples). Seeing players proud to wear the shirt and giving their all – I`d almost given up on seeing it again due to the poison in our dressing room. Steve Bruce has, if nothing else, brought proper professionals worthy of the shirt to this club.
