1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?
Started watching bits of the Villa in the mid 90’s. When the likes of Savo Milosevic and Mark Draper were playing for us under Brian Little. First game i attended was Darlington in the FA Cup in 99-00 and i got my first season ticket the following season. First goal i saw at Villa Park, as a season ticket holder was Luc Nilis’ screamer against Chelsea.
2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?
Always said whilst he was at Blues, ” he deserves a better club than them”. Didn’t mean it literally. D’OH. Nah, I wasn’t thrilled by the speculation of McLeish coming mainly because of the Blues connection but as a man i like Alex and i think he will do a fine job here given the chance. At the end of the day, whether we wanted it or not, he’s here, and we support the club. Got to get behind him. No doubt Villa fans will as seen by the support at the Walsall friendly and the sell outs at Derby/Fulham in the next couple of weeks.
3) Best and worst moments of last season?
Best moment: Beating Arsenal at the Emirates and signing Darren Bent. When we signed Bent it felt like we were sending out a signal to everyone else. Was a great signing.
4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?
Like the guy. He came in, improve facilities massively, backed MON and after spending so much money he wants the club to stand on its own two feet. Fair enough to me. Don’t think he’ll be able to do it long because when these older players all come to the end more money will have to be spent again. That’s just football. Think he could handle the PR side a bit better personally. That’s where he lets his regime down i think. He should do at least a yearly address to Villa fans and in my opinion now would be a perfect time to do one. Everyone likes hearing from their leader once in a while, hearing from Randy is no different. It would go a long way to settling fans down again.
5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?
Well not sure we’ll be getting anymore in but i do think we need another central midfielder and a winger. I worry that Albrighton won’t be able to last all season. I’d try and get in Bentley on loan from Spurs and try and get Parker in for central midfield.
6) Stewart Downing, now he has gone, were Villa right to get shot of him or should they have kept him against his wishes?
Was disappointed how Alex McLeish said he wouldn’t be going for anything under 50m and then we sell for 20m. Personally i think we could have held out for a bit more. If Carroll went for 35m then Downing was worth a little more than 20m. Having said that, i feel that we have replaced him really well for under half of what we got for Downing, in Charles N-Zogbia.
7) Favourite current player?
Darren Bent and Stiliyan Petrov.
8) Favourite all time player/s?
Ian Taylor, Martin Laursen.
9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?
Premier: Top Ten
FA Cup: 4th round
Carling: Semi Final
10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?
Q: Is Aston Villa still a big club?
A: Yes, of course.
