Vital Villa Summer 2011 Interviews: Young_Jonah

How do you do one I hear you cry? Click here and find out! YOUR TURN: The Vital Villa Interviews..

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Born in 1986, really took an interest during the 1993/94 season with the Coca-Cola Cup Final probably being the first game I watched on TV. Saw us play Tottenham on 21st January 1996 for my first game. Why am I a Villa fan? Well all my family are Villa fans, I had no choice!

2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?

I don’t have an opinion on McLeish one way or the other to be fair, his PR guy seems to have him saying the right things unlike Houllier’s. I hope McLeish can turn us into a force and be the next Sir Alex Ferguson, but unfortunately his track record in Premier League management would place him closer to the end in which Steve Wigley and Chris Hutchings sit opposed to Fergie.

I couldn’t care less about the fact he was Blues manager, I just think that with so many top managers available this summer (unlike last) the board made a HUGE mistake – hopefully I will be eating my words in next year’s interview.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Darren Bent’s goal against Arsenal was one of the best I have ever seen, the game itself was in fact one of the best I have seen. Worst moment would be the loss to the Blues in the League Cup, just knew they would end up going on to lift it.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?

I feel let down by Randy Lerner, he disrespected the fans alot by appointing the one guy no-one wanted – this ‘Must have Premiership experience’ criteria meant we turn to a relegated manager opposed to a Champions League manager who wanted to be interviewed.

I think the likely drop in Season Ticket sales will provide a clear indication to him of how annoyed the fans are.

I have lost a lot of time for the guy over the last couple of years, and to be honest I am at a point where I would actually like to see the back of him – I suppose it hurts more because I had so much faith in him when he arrived.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

N’Zogbia would be the perfect replacement for Ashley Young and if Downing goes then James Milner would be the dream replacement. I like Shay Given but would prefer Paul Robinson, and talking of Blackburn players we should maybe look to swap Stephen Warnock for Martin Olsson.

6) Stewart Downing, if he really wants out, should Villa refuse to let him go or get shot?

I would say that at the prices being quoted currently (£19-20 million) we should probably take the money and the handsome profit, then re-invest it in the squad. The worrying thing surely being that whoever we bring in will play brilliantly for a season then ditch us at the first sniff of a move to the top four – modern players have no loyalty.

7) Favourite current player?

Darren Bent, Luke Young and Ciaran Clark – don’t have much time for anyone else at the club to be honest, never known a squad that I have as little enthusiasm for as this one.

8) Favourite all time player/s?
Still Dwight Yorke for me, followed closely by Paul Merson and Ian Taylor. Special mentions to Martin Laursen and Olof Mellberg too!

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?
Premier: Top Half finish
FA Cup: Third Round exit to Man Utd
Carling: Semi-finals

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

What do you want from going to watch The Villa?

A team of hard-working individuals that give everything to the cause, win, lose or draw and for us to take the cup games seriously!

  • Always an interesting read when young_jonah takes the stage. I dont always agree with Dan on the forum, but he always provides food for thought, and I found his interview above, most interesting, and extremely informative. Some very good responses Dan.

  • Always for some reason tend to find you very negative about the Villa Young_jonah unless im miss understanding you!!

  • astonsteve – I am just negative about football in general. I would like to see more of an emphasis on trying to win cups than finishing high up the league as possible. Give me a cup final (W/L or D) and a 12th place finish over 6th place any day of the we

  • I understand young_jonah, i too would prefer to win a cup as to be honest we are never gonna win the league because of the money in football, would love though fans to be more supportive its our club, hopefully a good season now with young home grown play
