1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?
My old man took me to see Villa v Watford for my 9th birthday in 1984 – I remember it as clear as if it were yesterday – we won 2-1 and I was hooked. Can`t remember why we went to Villa (Dad is a Wolves fan!) but will never forget my first glimpse of the old Trinity Road stand.
2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?
I`ve got no real problem with Big Eck – bit weird jumping from Martinez to McLeish, but I`m sure he played that certain way with Blues because of the players he had to work with. You can`t polish a turd, after all. And don`t think the relegations were entirely down to him – they were in the sh*t before he took over first time, and injuries killed them last season. So let`s see what he`s got before we start sending back season tickets – surely it`s all about the club, not the manager?
3) Best and worst moments of last season?
Best: Nailing West Ham 3-0 in the first home game – told my son West Ham were going down, and they did – first prediction I think I`ve ever got right! And the way we played certainly wasn`t a sign of things to come.
Worst: Maybe O`Neill`s bail-out on the eve of the season (for obvious reasons) but probably James Milner`s goal in that West Ham game – the emotion of knowing it was his farewell to the us, scored for added cheese factor at the Holte End. Or maybe Rapid Vienna – again. Or the Newcastle game. Or….how long is a piece of string?!
4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?
Decent bloke, spent plenty to sustain 6th place before (I think) losing patience with O`Neill and his wastefulness in the transfer market. I`m sure he will back McLeish as well, but we are getting pretty desperate for some silverware…
5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?
Would definitely go along with the Hammer on a free, and would be pretty happy with N`Zogbia and Shay Given as everyone else seems to be. Wouldn`t say no to Matt Jarvis and Kevin Doyle from Wolves either, but I`m sure we don`t want to upset all of our neighbours at once….
6) Stewart Downing, if he really wants out, should Villa refuse to let him go or get shot?
Mixed feelings on this one – we really don`t need players who`s heads are being turned and aren`t 100% loyal to the cause. But equally, if Liverpool or whoever aren`t prepared to offer the proper ‘market value` then we should tell them to do one. Heard Mark Lawrenson on 5 Live this morning saying how Villa really were a ‘selling club` now and the grim realisation he was actually right for once.
7) Favourite current player?
Probably Marc Albrighton – attitude, commitment and ability in spades. A local boy who is giving 110% for the club, and if he keeps up with this progress, we won`t even notice the Ash & Downing-shaped holes in our team.
8) Favourite all time player/s?
Alan McInally, Paul McGrath and Mark Bosnich (mainly for his penalty saves against Tranmere to be honest).
9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?
Premier: Top 7 I would expect – we nearly did last year after such a horrendous season, and it`s pretty clear our ‘natural` level is just off top 4/5.
FA Cup: 6th round, or lose at home to United from 2-up with ten to play, Ashley Young knocking in the winner.
Carling: Lose at The Sty in the semi-finals…
10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?
Why did we sign Tony Cascarino when we were in touching distance of the title in 1990? The answer? Is there one?!
11) Right, let`s lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!
I`m strangely attracted to Natalie Sawyer from Sky Sports News, but if she ain`t ‘celebrity` enough, then Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) might, if she asked nicely.
Cristiano Ronaldo or Nemanja Vidic. They are cheats and I can`t stand them. End of.
