Vital Villa Summer Interview: shortshadyuk

shortshadyuk steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

When I was maybe 7 and I played right wing, Tony Daley was for England and looking through my Merlin Sticker Album I noticed he had the same birthday as me, then I realised David Platt played for Villa and he was amazing too and decided Villa were the team to support. I used to support Arsenal before that as my family did.

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

You cant knock the final position etc, but it represents, just like in the past another chance wasted. We were strongly placed to get into the top 4, but MONs policy of buying players late in a window means usually most of the better players are already sold, we still lack a quality forward and someone to create as much threat from the opposing flank to Ashley young, I really believe Downing will be a quality signing for us and was glad we got him, but Januarys window was a let down.

We had fantastic cup runs, I’d quite like us to take Europe s seriously and use the kids in the domestic cups for this next season.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best was being one up against Man Utd in the league cup final, the worst was losing that said game.

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

I think James Milner epitomises English football, a run of the mill hard working player; not amazingly creative like a Gazza, not the greatest tackler, not the greatest crosser (I’m talking about a regular basis not 1 england game where 1 cross in 9 hit the target and people hail him as the next Beckham), he doesn’t for me have that star quality to grab a game by the throat and take us to victory like Ashley young who works equally as hard and has more final product. I reckon most fans take Ashley young for granted, he is for me the complete winger and England’s future.

I’d take 20m honestly for Milner, I’d be happy if we took Micah Richards in return, Stephen Ireland, Craig Bellamy, Shay Given and pay whatever difference there is in the valuations.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

I think we need to buy players who are developing and look to nurture them with a view to selling, not average players but ones with a fair bit of ability. Here are a list of players I would get in based on whom they play for and their current circumstances, people like Ganso and Neymar we couldn’t attract for instance hence not on the list.
Sell Friedel now whilst we can command a fee for him, in goal I would like Shay Given he’s one of the best keepers in world football and if reports are true about Hart being Number 1, then we should take Given. If not, then Mickael Landreau of Lille.
Micah Richards for Right back and CB cover, I think if he gets his head right he’ll be England’s stand out defender in time.
Phil Jones of Blackburn, I would sell Collins on to fund this and pay some cash as a CB and to start. To cover the entire back four I’d get Marc Muniesa from Barcelona Reserves B team, he really looks a quality players to me and is versatile I’ve seen him play RB and CB.
Midfield – Gai Assulin (Free Agent) a quality winger who is young and plays with a little too much flair but if he learnt to be tactically minded he’d be a quality player for Villa. He’s a bums off seats player.
Juan Riquelme (Free transfer) creative player and an amazing free kick taker. Just as an option for European games and those where we need something a little special to win a game.
Rafael Van Der Vaart would be a dream signing he’s stated he wants regular football and to just play and be appreciated, he’d be a legend at Villa.
Creative Forward – Mauro Zarate – lived in Brum, good fast skillful forward who can run at players, pair him with Carew or Delfouneso
Goal Poaching Machine – Huntelaar, slightly on the fringe of the Milan side and looking for regular football, why not go in for him?

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I was a huge MON fan from the Wycombe Wanderers days, but to be honest his poor transfer windows, lack of a plan b have really let him down and the insistence upon not rotating a squad is a joke as he complains about fatigue in players, but doesn’t address the issue, whilst stock piling a new bench worth of players who aren’t fit to sit on it. He needs to focus on quality, not quantity, an 18 player squad, kids to fill in and have maybe 15 1st XI quality players fighting for spots in the team not giving people 1/2 a season to regain their confidence

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

I could not appreciate what they have done any more, they are a fantastic board and the envy of the league, but can they give me a job as a scout please ISM clearly isn’t doing his, or does MON just not rate his scouted players?

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Ashley young as my favourite current player and I would hate for him to leave but if a Big European giant wants him then he should go to further his career, he’s one Englishman who would go abroad and be a success.

All time player would be Dwight Yorke, he had everything for a forward, a good reading of the game, a cheeky attitude and some arrogance in front of goal, created chances, took his, he narrowly pips David Platt IMO for this and Martin Laursen.

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

I don’t think we’ll finish above 6th but I’m happy with top 8 and using the youth team more, if we use the youth a lot I’d settle for 12th place I would like to see these lads coming through.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Celebrity would be Jennifer Love Hewitt, I don’t think anyone is better looking or more talented (Singing, Dancing, Acting) and she’s such a nice person or seems that way from interviews etc.
Celebrity to thump would be John Terry, he’s a completely over rated bellend, or Emile Heskey so the Fonz gets a chance to play, but I’m sure he’d take a dive before the punch arrived as the wind blew or something.
