Vital Villa Summer Interview: Stephen Jay Hawkings

Stephen Jay Hawkings steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

At the age of 7, being Irish, Tony Cascarino was my favourite player around that World Cup ’90 era so on the back of one those football cards I saw his club was Villa and my love affair began!

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

Good, has to be, 6th place, beating Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea and the Clowns twice, one cup-final, one cup semi-final, if anyone is disappointed with that, then they’re really just a closet Chelsea fan.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best, beating United at OT, never thought I’d see it in my lifetime!
Worst, the Chelsea humiliation, also something I thought I’d never see in my lifetime!

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

I hope to keep him, but if he wants to go then get rid of him, if cash only, then no less than £30m, if we do an exchange than at least £20m and Stephen Ireland, he could be just what we need in midfield.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

I think this summer is MONs biggest and he has to make the right signings. We need some BIG names to excite the crowd, and add a bit of flair and skill to the team, we have enough big-hearted grafters by now. A creative, talented midfielder, (perhaps Ireland?) to unlock defences when we’re hopeless, and I think most importantly a top striker that has composure in front of goal and can create chances for himself, Fabiano, Falcao? etc.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I was hugely excited when he arrived, and thought we’re gonna see better days from now on, and to be honest that has happened. I think this transfer window and next season are huge for him, he knows what the fans now expect, we need a few top players to improve the squad, and we need to see the football improving too. If things go backward over the next 2 or 3 seasons then, I will say thank you Martin for your services, you were one of our best managers, and I will welcome someone else in to take us to the next level.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Although maybe he’s not as loaded as I thought at the beginning, Randy and the board have done a fine job, funding for players, nice touches around Villa Park, Acorns, the ’82 rememberings etc. We’re the envy of most clubs when it comes to our chairman and board, and that says it all.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

I’d have to say Carew is my favourite player, he can be frustrating, but he has that bit of class that we need more of. All time favourite would have to be McGrath for may reasons, but I was a big Dean Saunders fan too, had his name on the back of the Muller jersey!

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

I do expect progress, we have very solid foundations, especially at the back, if we could bang in a few more goals, who knows where we would be?

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Monica Bellucci for me everytime, still smoking hot at 40wotever, and would most like to thump Piers Morgan because why wouldn’t anyone?

With thanks to Stephen Jay Hawkings
