Vital Villa Summer Interview: Stig

Stig steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Born into a Villa family, did I have a choice?

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

Numb to it to be honest. There were some great moments, Anfield, Ye Old Trafford, Blackburn – “Please Exit the Stadium and Make Your Way to WEMBLEY”, John Terry`s toddler like tantrum after we scored our 2nd, 6points off the Blouse as usual, The Final, The Semi Final etc. But we are hitting that glass ceiling, and seem to have been labeled the ‘nearly men`. One thing that really annoys me is the fact that the media give us little or no credit whatsoever, but that`s more to do with our postcode and the fact that the gutter rags are published in London.
I have to say the ugliest part of the season for me was watching poor Cuellar played at right back all season, when he is a terrible right back, but potentially Mellberg II at centre half – and he is working on his beard! It`s not his fault, and feel quite sorry for him for coming under fire. And all of this when we have one of the best English right backs on our books, who cant wait to get out this summer – can you really blame Luke???

This summer will define our ambition, and I think be O`Neill`s toughest transfer window working with tight budget constraints, which I can understand when you consider the millions he has wasted in the past. If he doesn`t make it work, the fans will be on him from 3pm on August 14th. Simply put I think 2010 – 2011 season will define his tenure as Aston Villa Manager, make or break territory.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best: Blackburn, Semi final, when we thrashed them, I was lucky enough to be up in the K Block for that one. And the day out at Wembley.

Worst, not winning a trophy.

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

Gone. We can`t turn down £30m, and a free player, and we can`t pay Jim Lad the £120k a week he would need to stay.
Ireland has a reputation so no thanks. Nedham Onuha for me please as part of the deal, or Bellemy as part of the deal.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

Two strikers
– Keane (Probably nailed on)
– Anelka
– A daring punt on Berbatov? – if anyone can get him scoring again in a normal system its O`Neill !!!

Attacking midfield (Yossi from Chavpool?)

RB & LB – Manolev, Onuha, Richards, Fox ?

Defensive midfielder – Veloso finally ?

We need to improve the squad, especially with Jim Lad going all “Baby Bentley” on us! Moreover, I think the time has come for O`Neill to venture abroad in the transfer market.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

His Thro…… I mean, unless we go and get Moyes I am behind him, we wont attract any better at this stage, and I definitely don`t want Mark Hughes here.

This is his defining season. Do or Die time, and I hope he gets it right, I would love to see him really succeed with us.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Can`t fault them, and cant wait to see the new stadia plans

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

I would have said Milner, but he can go blow himself now for all I care – unless he stays of course.
Petrov has been superb again this season, and comes under fire a lot which puzzles me when you look at the job he does for us, but he needs a rest and to be rotated on occasion to keep him going over 90mins and not 60mins.

Ashley Young has grafted this season, and learnt how to defend, some have been critical of him, but the experience he has gained this season, will make him a better player in the long run, and no doubt he will find his delivery again.

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

No, I expect more of the same to be honest, with Tottenham likely to invest heavily this year along with Citeh, we will scrap it out with Everton and Chavpool for 6th again – unless of course O`Neill figures out finally how to turn our bore draws into wins!!!
I want a trophy next year.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Got a real boner for Dexter`s wife (don`t know her name) at the moment – she has came back into series 4 with a boob job – looking good for a serial killers wife with 2 kids.
Ben – Phil Mitchell`s son in Eastenders. I know its wrong, but just the sight of his little stupid face makes me angry.
