Maine Villan takes the Vital Villan interview:

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

1976, when I first saw them play as a young and impressionable kid.

2) Best moment/moments as a Villa fan?

My first sight of Villa Park; my dad taking me to an away game at the age of 5; winning the European Cup; beating Manchester United at Wembley; meeting the entire squad more than once; and finally, playing for an Ipswich Town 5 aside team and scoring the winning goal in front of John Walk whilst raising my Ipswich shirt to kiss the Villa badge on the shirt underneath.

3) Worst moment/moments as a Villa fan?

Watching Luke Nillis break his leg in his first game; being relegated; watching us give up on the UEFA Cup last year…that is simply something that will haunt me forever; losing 5-0 to Arsenal while their scum supporters spat on us from above the entire game

4) Best and worst away ground visited?

Best – Highbury or the Albion
Worst – Upton Park or Stamford Bridge, just cannot believe how poor the visibility is at those grounds.

5) What did you think of last season? Good, bad or indifferent and do you think we progressed?

I do not think we progressed; in fact at the end of the season we were playing like relegation fodder. I was sad that we again failed to take an advantage of a potential Champions League spot.

I do not think Villa have enough money to progress, and to be realistic I only think we have enough to battle for 6th place. We missed our opportunity to step it up last season and now we will not be able to attract the talent.

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

I do not have suggestions on who we should buy, but I can offer a few names of players to sell, such as Friedel, Harewood, Salifou, and Gardiner for starters.

7) What do you expect next season?

Premier League: 7th
FA Cup: Out first round
Europa League: Out second round
Carling Cup: Maybe we will make the quarter finals.

8) Your opinion on Martin O’Neill now he is approaching his 4th season in charge?

My opinion has not changed since the moment that MON joined the Villa. I believe he is the best coach in the Premier League and an average manager.

9) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

He is better than Ellis and at least shows some ambition. I feel that Randy still does not quite understand that winning and progressing is more important than big flags and over-commercialization. I guess you can take the BOY out of the States but cannot take the States out of the boy.

10) Favourite current player?

Luke Young. He has awareness, skill and the potential to be a huge star in the Premier League.

11) Favourite former player/s?

Alan McInally, Peter Withe, Sid Cowans, Nigel Spink, Allan Evans, Dennis Mortimer, Shaune Teale, Paul McGrath, Tony Daley, Tony Cascarino (loved that time when we had a fun song for every player), Dwight Yorke, Kevin Richardson, Mellberg, Gary Shaw, Mark Walters, David Platt and many many more.

12) Gareth Barry, what do you think of his departure?

I wish Gareth all the luck in the world; that man gave us all the chances in the world to meet his expectations and we continually failed him and ourselves. He deserves to be in a squad that has aspirations of winning the league; he just would never get that at VP.

13) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang?!

Meg Ryan. I was would just like to bang her so hard that it would take that cute little smile off her face for once.

With thanks to Maine Villan
