1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

For far longer than I can remember. No idea on my age but was during GT’s first period at the club. Just the group of friends I had at the time were Villa fans so I took an interest and quickly fell in love with the club. The old guard of Birchy, Evans, McGrath, Platt, Cowans, Mountfield. But that’s about as specific as I can be, my memory is not the best.

2 – What was your first game?

That’s relatively easy, Trabzonspor is the first one I remember properly and I’ve always assumed that was the first match I got to, yet looking through old programmes and fixtures I have tickets and vague memories for matches that came before Trabzon so God only knows. Then again not remembering a match is fairly common with me.

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Most memoriable doesn’t have to be best moment does it? The most memorable has to be the 7-1 crushing of Wimbledon but not for the reasons for most would imagine (some will know this already). Had been too most matches that season and we’d lost the last two, so I decided to do the ‘family visit’ or something else instead of going. Got back in to listen to it on Xtra AM as it was back then and lovingly heard the goals go in whilst I held my head in my hands.

4 – And the worst moment?

It’s either that above, or the loss to Blues where I spent the second half in the North Stand upper concourse in a drunken rage at how bad we were.

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

I’m getting a bit too old for favourites. But Young or Gardner for me because I think they both have cracking futures ahead of them. If I had to pick an older head, then Laursen is the closest who I think could become the next Villa Park legend.
6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Bozzie, God, Cowans

7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Julian Joachim

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

I can’t pick one goal or one match. The great matches and goals I’ve seen would probably turn this into the longest interview yet. But I’m too young to have experienced the joys of winning the league or the European Cup, so can I go with I haven’t yet had the pleasure of seeing my best goal and my favourite game as something like that deserves to have changed the course of our history. Gives the current crop something to live up to!

9 – Best away ground visited?

Never been away following the Villa. I have enough trouble getting back from Villa Park when I’m drunk, let alone somewhere else.

10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

At this moment in time, anybody.

I don’t mind to be honest, I like the fact we are building a squad with decent older head experience but making the mainstay of the squad youngsters with potential. I’d like to see that continue but we’ve seen a few who fit the bill move already. I’m hoping O’Neill has the bids in on the others.

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
6th
b) Europe Uefa Quarters
c) Carling Cup Semi’s
d) Fa Cup Win

ps – can I remind everyone I said we’d sneak Europe this season with a bit of luck. I’m hoping I have the same joy with my predictions for next season!

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

I’ve always liked him and continue to do so. Whether it’s fair to make a judgment on his Villa impact yet and make a judgment on whether he is the manager who can move us into the Top 4, he needs at least another season or two before I can make that decision. But whether he is or isn’t – I still think he’s a cracking manager and I get his humour and will always like him.
13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Do I, of all people, need to answer that? Think of everything I said about Doug Ellis, pick the opposite pleasing and optimistic statement and that will give you a clue. Apart from obviously I’m happy he sold to Lerner, because if you followed my instructions it would imply I wanted the Wibble one to still be in charge.

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

Never been a season ticket holder, when I had the freedom to attend every match I never had the money. Holte Lower (L2 and around there) is probably where my bum has left an imprint, but the only places I haven’t sat are the upper tiers of the new Trin, and the lower Witton Lane. Yes, when I was desperate for a ticket one night me and the missus lowered ourselves to ask for seats in the Doug Ellis stand and I only said Doug Ellis because the bloke selling the tickets looked lost when I said I’ll take the two in the Witton Lane upper as it wasn’t an option he gave. That was Bolton the other year when I spent the entire match wondering why Gabby wouldn’t run behind the defence and why JF wouldn’t wave from his seat.

I could see his bald head, surely he could see my hair?

15 – And finally if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

Randy and the General in the claret corner, Ellis and Stride in the blue corner. Celebrity Death Match and I’d be the referee.

With thanks to.. the aging idiot
