It is Mayo_12 turn on the Vital Villan Interviews..

1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

My uncle took me to my first ever football match when I was about six, which was Villa vs Some Other Team I Can’t Remember. I’m thinking it was Ipswich…but in any case, been a Villa fan ever since.

2 – What was your first game?
See above.

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Unfortunately I wasn’t even in the womb when took victory in Rotterdam, so Villa’s greatest moment is beyond my memory. For me I think it was watching Savo’s screamer fly in at Wembley against Leeds in 1996…still one of the best goals I’ve seen in a cup final. Our mauling of the S**t last season runs it close though.

4 – And the worst moment?

It’s going to sound a bit lame compared to some other peoples answer to this question, but seeing Van Nistelrooy’s third goal in 10 minutes settle in the back of the net in the FA Cup third round a few years was one of the most gutting football moments of my life. I was so sure we had them beat. There was also an incident with a certain goalkeeper letting a throw-in go under his foot as well, but I don’t like to think about that.

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Ashley Young, Martin Laursen and Wilfred Bouma.

6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

He was plying his trade in my junior years, but even then Paul McGrath held legendary status with me. Bosnich was also a favourite former player.

7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Possibly Eric Djemba-Djemba – royal waste of money and time.

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Best goal – Gary Cahill’s ridiculously high bicycle-scissor-overhead kick thing against the S**t – there are a lot of strikers who have never scored a goal as good as that.
Favourite game – 5-1. Simple.

9 – Best away ground visited?

I went to my first away matches last season, but only 3 or 4, and none of the grounds were particularly brilliant. I think it makes us realise how good Villa Park really is when we see some other grounds. I’d probably say Blackburn…but that might be because of the 4-0 result 🙂

10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

I’ve been saying James Milner since the very start of the transfer window, and I hold to that. It’s looking more likely now too.

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League 5th, but I’m still holding optimism for 4th with the way some other teams have started the season.
b) Europe Quarter-finals.
c) Carling Cup Second or third game in, we’ll probably lose to a poor opposition.
d) Fa Cup Semi-finals…lose to Man U.

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

A fantastic and very professional manager. I really hope he breaks his five-year trend and stays with us.

13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Again, fantastic. It’s a near fact that we wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are now with any other group of people in place. If Lerner hadn’t of stepped in when he did to pick us up, we could easily have ended up with an owner the like of Shinawatra at Man City or the appropriately named Eggert Magnusson that bought and then rapidly sold West Ham.

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

I unfortunately work in retail which means working most weekends, so holding a season ticket wouldn’t be much use to me. I go whenever I can though, and if I can’t get a decent seat in the Upper Holte I sit in the Trinity for a better all-round view.

15 – And finally if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

Randy Lerner, Martin O’Neill, Peter Withe, and Paul Mcgrath. The totty would be hard to choose, but I think I’d go with Natalie Portman.

With thanks to Mayo 12
