odowdk3 takes the Vital Villa interview:

1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

I have been a Villa fan since the start of the second Premiership season. Being from Ireland, the fact that Villa had just signed Staunton and Houghton to add to Townsend and McGrath that were already there made up my mind for me. Also, rated Yorkie very highly at the time as well.

2 – What was your first game?

First game was us losing 4-3 to Charlton in Villa Park in May 1999. Great end-to-end game involving 7 goals, 2 sendings off, last minute winner, just about everything I could have wished for barring the result. After this, I was hooked.

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

I would say the entire 1995-6 season really, to come 4th, win the League Cup and get to the semis of the FA Cup was a great achievement.

4 – And the worst moment?

Stern John’s 95th minute equaliser against us in February 2004, was at the game and the annoyance of seeing the s**t denying us so late was astonishing. I thought at the time that we would never beat them but at least that’s no longer the case!!!

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Martin Laursen, Ashley Young and Gareth Barry

6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Paul McGrath, Dwight Yorke, Olof Mellberg and Ian Taylor

7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

A bit controversial but I would have to say Liam Ridgewell – every time I was at a game and saw the guy’s name on the teamsheet, I was a nervous wreck for the whole game. He had far too many lapses in concentration and gave away far too many penalties. Other than that, would say Bosko or DJx2

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Best goal I have seen is either the Ashley Young goal against Odense BK in the home leg, or Gary Cahill/Hitzlsperger against the Blues (both astonishing strikes into the Holte End).

9 – Best away ground visited?

Old Trafford

10 – Who was the best signing this summer?

delighted to see Milner and Luke Young sign

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a)League – 6th
b)Europe – Last 16
c)FA Cup – 4th round (v United)

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

God!!! The guy is a star – even when we lose I look forward to seeing his balanced views in interviews. Usen’t to be able to cope with DOL even when we won!

13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Again, can’t talk highly enough of them. The change in atmosphere/quality of Villa Park is extremely encouraging. Was talking to a guy who travels over to the games from Ireland like myself who had been going over to Villa games for 40 yrs (including European Cup Final) at the end of 2005-6 season and he said that season would be his last (he had just seen 3 straight home 0-0 draws against teams of the quality of Fulham, WBA, etc) as he found it depressing making all the trips for such drab matches. Needless to say, when Randy and MON came in, he was back the next season!!!

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

I am a season ticket holder since the start of 2007-8 season and sit in Doug Ellis Upper P3.

15 – And finally if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

I’d have to go for Ian Taylor, Martin O’Neill, Dwight Yorke and Paul McGrath. Totty ….. Maybe Rachel Bilson (oh yea!!!!)
