It is phil4villa’s turn on the Vital Villan Interviews..

1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

In 1985 I went to birmingham uni. Met a group of lads in the bar discussing football, we were soon deciding which team to support (villa/brum) by the toss of a coin! Thank MON it came up VILLA. Birmingham lost to Altrincham in FA Cup the same night, I seem to remember.

2 – What was your first game?

Villa v Everton. 0 – 0 I think. I’d had a few drinks.

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

The Tranmere epic, had it all. Snatching victory from the proverbial jaws. I was a mess.

4 – And the worst moment?

Erm, David O’Leary. Erm, I was very happy when he got the job, but then, erm…it all went…erm, wrong. And, erm, every interview was, erm…

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Ashley Ashley Ashley. He has everything. Any set-piece in the opponents half…I expect us to score!

6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Difficult. If I pick one, it’ll be because I’ve forgotten someone else. I’ll pass.
7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Gavin McCann. Never liked his ‘style’. OK, most teams need a player to block/obstruct/stifle/annoy/agitate/foul! the opposition, but…some ability would also be nice, thank you very much.

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Recent goals are always fresh in the memory. Young skipping down the wing to set up Agbonlahor’s goal v. Chelski was very sweet. I remember a League Cup 1/4 at Spurs, Houghton scoring both goals in a 2-1 win. My family are mostly Spurs fans, we live in Kent. My brother, a season-ticket holder, got the tickets and we all went…I was sitting in a stand full of Spurs fans, politely hiding my excitement, and then…on the way back to the car, letting it all come out. Waaaaaaaaaaa!

9 – Best away ground visited?

I love all major football grounds. Match day is special wherever you are.

10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?
David Bentley, I guess. Not because he’s a great player yet, but it would be a clear indication of the clubs direction and purpose.

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
2nd. Don’t want to be too optimistic.

b) Europe beating Spurs in the final. Aaah, the thought of it.
c) Carling Cup a sharp exit. We got bigger things on our mind.
d) Fa Cup beating Man Utd in the final. Aaah, just imagine it…

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

Judgement day is coming soon. He hasn’t put a foot wrong yet. I hope he has the courage to really go for it…Villa Park is begging for it. The signs are goodgoodgood.
13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

We couldn’t be in better hands. The Acorns deal touched my heart. Just how much integrity can one man have? Amen.

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

Sadly, not to be. But my thoughts are always with you. I hope to get to Villa Park a couple of times next season.

15 – And finally if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

I would invite Paul Merson, Paul McGrath, Ron Atkinson and Frank Worthington (my ultimate football idol, sorry). Erm, would anybody like a drink? I think we can say that it would be a hoot. Nigella Lawson would be the top totty. She could also do the cooking. Heaven indeed.
