Vital Villan Mid Season Interview: deano.avfc

deano.avfc takes the Vital Villa mid-season interview:

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

When I was about 10 years old or so, decided not to be a sheep and support Man Utd or Liverpool like 99% of Northern Irish football fans. First few games on Sky I watched I took a shine to Villa! From then on it quickly became an obsession………

2) What do you think of this season, do we have the chance to push on or will we slip up like last season?

I really think we can push on, much more depth in the squad. We have so many decent players who would walk into other starting XIs in the Premiership like Delph, Gardner, Reo-Coker, Delfouneso who have basically not been needed too much this season – if injuries and lack of form hit, we will need them and they will be good enough!

3) Best moment/s of this season so far?

First game I was over for this season – Home to Chelsea. Beating Chelsea after being a goal down was an absolute stunner! Also had the pleasure of meeting Morley, Shaw and Gibson after the game – awesome day!! Is there a nicer man than Tony Morely? If there is I have yet to meet them!

4) Worst moment/moments of this season so far?

The Wigan defeat was bad, but the Torres winner really left me gutted!! Hadnt felt as annoyed about a goal against us since the Kaboul equaliser in the 4-4 Spurs draw a few seasons ago! Gutted!!

5) Do you expect any arrivals this January (bearing in mind MON has indicated not) and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you go for?

I dont see it at all and really think we will see a few exits (Reo-Coker and Gardner) but I would love to see us take the risk with Van Nistelrooy – ok its a risk and he would cost a lot of wages BUT the fee would be little and in my opinion is a cert to get 10-12 goals during the rest of the season and that could be the difference between 4th and 7th!!! We can make so many chances we need to rely on someone just to tuck them away!!

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

We now have a midfield in which Downing, Young and Milner will be integral for a number of years yet but we need a real ball-winning, tough tacking midfielder. Dont get me wrong, Petrov is very very good, but we need someone a lot better to really break the top 4, or simply just to give Petrov a rest now and again. Sidwell, Reo-Coker and Petrov are as good as the likes of Scott Parker and others we have been linked with. It is a cliche but we need a Makelele, Keane, Petit or even Palacious type player. I would send the scouts out with the aim of gettin the best in that position, no matter where they are from. We have the players in each other position that could get us to the top four. A quality striker and a combative midfielder would finish it off – its quality not quantity now!!

7) If we made the Carling Cup final, who would you most like to face Manchester United or Manchester City?

Always Man United!! I am a teacher and to see 20-25 Man Utd fans in front of me every day is frustrating, as it is in every pub or club in Nortern Ireland – they are everywhere – to be able to give some abuse would last me to the summer holidays!!! As long as we win it!!

8) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier League: I hope 4th but the question says expect, I expect 6th!
FA Cup: Quarter Finals
Carling Cup: I expect runners up but really fancy us to win it!! We have more of a chance if I dont expect it though!!

9) Your opinion on Martin O’Neill now he is mid way through his 4th season in charge?

Fellow Ulsterman, so biased, but I am not only happy with O’Neill, I am also proud that he is manager!! In my opinion, should be held in the same regard as Wenger and Ferguson (possibly Moyes), as in they are *almost* unsackable – they will leave when they want to leave, when they consider the job finished!! Just use your scouts a bit more – lets have a signing plucked form obscurity to become a key player for us!!

10) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Cannot fault them! Dont see how anyone can!! Would not swap our Chairman or Manager for anyone else!!

11) Favourite current player?

Jimmy Milner is going to be quality in the centre of midfield. The guy works better than anyone else on the team – fitness levels are outstanding and from what I hear, puts in more effort than most other pro footballers on the training pitch!!

12) Favourite former player/s?

Dean Saunders!! At his peak, would be the ideal signing this January – then I would be very confident of a 4th place finish!!

/13) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Megan Fox – all day long!!

Would love to thump that guy John Barrowman – so bloddy irritating!! From the football world – El Hadji Diouf!!
