Vital Villan Mid Season Interview: Francobaresi13

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

1989 my Step Dad brought a programme home for me. I decided there and then Villa was my team. Saw my forst game around Christmas of that year, a 2-1 win over Arsenal with Platt scoring his typical technically brilliant Goal.

2) What do you think of this season, do we have the chance to push on or will we slip up like last season?

Happy so far, despite some indifferent performances. I like the fact that O’Neill knows his strongest line up, but some players do look like they need a rest. The boys against West Ham looked like they were taking it easy for the Second Leg of the semi, would have been a good game to give some players with a point to prove a run out. Because of this, I think we are looking at a steady as has been the case all season, undefeated for a few, unable to win for a few.

3) Best moment/s of this season so far?

Man U game was great, and obviously the Blues game. I live in Bangkok and was watching it on the Big Screen with a Blues fan who I also work with. Great feeling when Gabby scored…

4) Worst moment/moments of this season so far?

The Liverpool game…4.30am and Torres scores…

5) Do you expect any arrivals this January (bearing in mind MON has indicated not) and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you go for?

I don’t expect any. I would have liked Darren Bent or Michael Owen in the summer, and I still would like them now, knowing they are the type of player we need. Saying that, I think we already have that poacher in Delfouneso. People may say he isn’t experienced enough, but he needs to get it somehow and his goals to minutes ratio for us is very impressive.

Steven Gerrard would be nice too!!!

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

I think we will. It’s been a gradual process for O’Neill, he finally has the defence looking solid, next will probably be the Midfield and finally the Attack. Probably not us Villa fans want to hear. I would like a Centre Mid and a Goal Scorer though. Watching that video of Brian Little’s exploits in the League Cup of ’77 shows how we could do with him now…and being born in ’82 I’ve only got that video to go on as evidence as to how good he was!

7) If we made the Carling Cup final, who would you most like to face Manchester United or Manchester City?

Either. Be great to beat City so we could tell Mr. Barry what a wise choice he made (although him alongside Milner?! That would certainly help us) but also I know a great deal of man U fans, who obviously are not Glory Hunters(!) who I could banter with!

8) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier League:6th
FA Cup:Semi’s
Carling Cup:Winners

9) Your opinion on Martin O’Neill now he is mid way through his 4th season in charge?

Brilliant. He has his ways, as most managers do, but he has got us playing well enough to be considered a potential ‘Champions’ League team on a consistent basis. Although he has had some dodgy signings (Heskey, Davies, Shorey, Salifou) he has also uncovered some gems in Dunne, Warnock, Collins, Cuellar, Young, Milner and Downing. The fact he has such a good relationship with the chairman probably helps too.

10) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Awesome. I think every club in the League wishes they had him (except Man C and Chelsea, for obviosu reasons). He lets the manager run the team, has been very kind to the fans and has a history of resurrecting things, as he did with the Cleveland Browns franchise in American Football.

11) Favourite current player?

Has to be Milner. He plays as though he is one of the fans. Even during a bad game he never shy’s away and never gives up. A revelation this season and fully deserving of a place in the World Cup squad.

12) Favourite former player/s?

Without doubt Ian Taylor. Epitomised what every Villa Fan would play like if they wore the shirt. Always scored at important times (missed his goal in the ’96 Cup Final due being in the bathroom…gutted) and the send off he got from the Villa fans when he was at Northampton I think says it all.

A soft spot for David Platt too. He was my first footballing hero and the reason I started following the England Team.

13) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which would you most like to thump!?!

Thump…Rashad Evans and Matt Hughes (Former UFC Champs) and Floyd Mayweather too.

Bang…too many to choose from…any of these 3…Keely Hazell, Lucy Pinder or Salma Hayek
