Ron(crete) Vlaar has said he is convinced that Paul Lambert has all the mental qualities to succeed at Villa, and Lambert also sold the Dutchman on the style of play we will employ.
Speaking to Setanta before Lambert’s first unfortunate loss against Notts Forest today, the new centre half said of our new gaffer:
‘It’s about the way he wants to play football. I don’t know what he was like as a player, but throughout my conversations with him I could see the mentality he has. You have to be very strong, which is very important for the team, and I feel he can achieve a great deal. Villa has a strong manager going forward.’
The Forest result will take the shine off pre season so far, but Lambert will have learnt a lot from what went wrong defensively in the final 20 minutes today, and can work on fixing it ahead of the proper season kick off.
And if Ron is true to his word, that’s exactly what the players will be discussing now.
