With the slow build up to Manchester United and real football returning, Ron Vlaar and Joe Cole have been talking about their injury problems and how they hope to return to fitness shortly.

Both interviews are carried by the Birmingham Mail, so I might as well begin with Vlaar.

With knee injury and then persistent calf problems leading to more time on the sidelines for our skipper, he explained.

‘It was really frustrating to have the set-back recently. It`s happened a few times this season but I feel good now and I hope to be in for the weekend. Hopefully we`ve found the cause of the problems now.’

Vlaar isn’t the only one hoping to be back for United, Joe Cole is also looking to make an impact in the final games of the campaign, and he explained.

‘This is the business end of the season and with my experience I would like to make an impact. This time of the year is a bit strange with some players going away and the rest of the lads here. But for me personally, the international break is a good opportunity to build up some fitness and make myself available for the Man United game.’

It also appears that Tom Cleverley continues to struggle with the injury he picked up and Jores Okore has also come back from international duty with a knee problem according to reports – and that’s being assessed at the moment.

As things stand, and passed fit, we only have Ciaran Clark at the minute in terms of a senior defender as Senderos and Baker also remain out.

Hopefully the proper injury update from the club Wednesday/Thursday ish will yield some positive news on that front.
