Roncrete Vlaar has spoken of his delight at wearing the captain’s armband for the first time in our victory over Swansea.

Speaking to the Official Site Vlaar talked about the pride he felt at captaining the team, and it’s obviously an honour he wants to keep.

‘Being made Villa captain makes me very proud and I’m very happy with that. I think I know what to expect from myself an I want to do a good job. The manager said before kick off that I was captain, and that was a very positive signal from the manager. I don’t want to let him down and, hopefully, it will be important for the team.’

I think everyone agrees it was the right move, as Vlaar is naturally a leader both in posture but also the way he plays, and that level of commitment and desire can lift a team on it’s own. He certainly seems to have settled perfectly at the club since his arrival, and many fans are already positively comparing him with former greats so long may it continue.
