Villa youngster Jamie Ward has joined League Two side Stockport on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old winger and reserve team captain has been pencilled in to join the squad immediately for the game v Cheltenham as long as he passes a medical check.

Ward, who has been a Northern Ireland under-21 player for the past two seasons, should offer Stockport a few more options as he can play up front, as a midfielder/winger or a full-back.

He told the official site recently: ‘I love playing for the reserves and, being a Villa fan, it’s great to play for the club. But the next stage in my development has to be a loan spell somewhere. I need first-team games and loan spells have been really useful for people like Luke Moore and Gary Cahill.’

Looks like he has his wish!

Board member Gazton Villa, (that is Vital message board member Gary, you’ve not been promoted!) said:

Can’t tell you much about him, only seen him in action once. Scored twice vs Sunderland reserves and looked sharp. Not normally a striker if I remember correctly, he’s seen as more of a link player between midfield and forward lines. On top of that, he’s a genuinely nice bloke who had none of the arrogance
that you would expect from a young player (yes, I’m thinking of Lee Hendrie when I say that).

He also rated him recently in his match report for the reserves v Sunderland saying:

Ward: A captain’s performance and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick. More than just a striker though, linked well with his teammates and created Whittingham’s goal too. 9.

Come on Ward, keep Stockport up!
