Stephen Warnock has pointed to a below par first half performance from the team as the reason we lost to Arsenal, despite their obvious quality.

Speaking on the Official Site as the dust continues to settle following our abject performance at the weekend, Warnock was quick to praise the quality and skill of the Arsenal side, but was honest in the fact that we lost that game by stupid basic errors again.

‘We started poorly and gifted them two sloppy goals. The first was a mix up between Ginge and Luke and the second was deflected. That put us in a bad position at half time.’

He was however pleased with how we responded in the second half, and added.

‘We knew we could play better and the second half was about being positive and starting brightly. You can’t afford to make mistakes against a team like Arsenal.’

Mistakes like bouncing around in no man’s land, failing to either challenge the player on the ball or keep your position and defend the back post presumably.

Anyway, enough of the negativity, the positives – Ciaran Clark.

‘It was a calm finish for the first and he put his head in where it hurts for the second. He was unfortunate not to get the hat trick where he dragged it just wide of the post.’

So there we go, I think we can deduce from the player interviews today that the team aren’t exactly happy with themselves either – which may comfort some.
