Wasteful Villa Continue To Provide Favours To Others – Match Stats

With choppy form and performance levels in recent matches, Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard continued to say the right things to the media following matches but what fans were craving was a proper, dominating performance where we were worthy winners, as opposed to self inflicted losers but Roy Hodgson was still looking for his first win as Watford gaffer and today was never going to be an easy game.

Gerrard made the expected changes after recent performances – which translates as Ollie Watkins was taken out the firing line and in came Danny Ings for a rare start.

Sadly, from our point of view – the change counted for little. We had far more of the ball, far more chances overall but we managed a pathetic and paltry single effort on target across the 90 and with Watford offering far more threat with far less of the ball, their breakthrough came with 12 minutes remaining on the clock and we had absolutely no answer.

Another defeat, without a win in seven of the last eight matches and I can’t imagine that game provides many answers to the questions fans are asking.
