Our opening day, match winning goalscorer, Andi Weimann has looked back on the game against Stoke City and said it was a real team effort.
With Weimann finding the net early on in the second half to give us the win, he has obviously taken a number of the plaudits and the headlines from our opening game of 2014-15, but speaking to the Official Site the Austrian was quick to pass on the praise to the entire squad and the subs who took to the pitch.
‘It was brilliant. Playing Stoke at the Britannia is a really tough place to come. We knew it was going to be a hard game. Getting the win, and the clean sheet, was massive. We worked really hard and we knew we’d have to. Everyone gave it 100%.
Weimann goes on to say again that coming to Stoke you know it’s going to be a battle, but all the lads were up for it and were focused and ultimately all that matters is we came out with the win and the three points, although he does accept that given the chances we fashioned on the day we should’ve won by a greater margin really.
Of course for himself, having struggled in front of goal last season, to get off the mark in the first match was a huge plus for him.
‘I took a bit of a bad touch and nearly lost it. But luckily it bounced back and I hit it first time and it went in. It was nice to start the season with a goal. I said earlier in the week that I want to score more this season and hopefully that’s the start for me.’
