Stephen Ireland has signed a new 4 year contract with Villa following the eventual cash plus swop deal involving James Milner.

Caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald has already said of the arrival:

‘This is a great signing for the club, Stephen is an outstanding young talent who will complement the talented players we already have here.’

Stephen himself has conducted his first Villa based interview on the Official Site and was obviously looking forward to training and working his way into Big Mac’s plans with him having an eye on the Newcastle fixture for his debut.

‘My number one target is to work hard for my team mates, and show them what I can bring to the table. When I get my chance on the ball, hopefully I’ll shine aswell.’

Ireland describes his welcome to the club as joining a new family, and he’s looking forward to settling in.

‘I am really excited, I have only been here a day but I know what it is about already. It’s a family club. I’ve seen lots of happy faces and friendly faces so I am looking forward to building up a relationship with the fans and my new team mates.’

He’ll no doubt have regrets, and be sad to leave Manchester City just like the Dunneymonster was but if he can slot in as quickly and get back to his best, like Dunne did, then despite our disappointment at seeing the Millyman go we hopefully won’t miss him too much.

Welcome Mr Ireland!
