Well, That’ll Silence Some Of The Doubters – Villa Take First Win – Match Stats

Friday evening certainly turned into an eventful night for me, but Aston Villa found themselves back in front of the television cameras as we welcomed Everton to Villa Park for our third Premier League clash of 2019/20.

Having lost our first two matches and with some fans getting antsy despite the small improvements both matches (Spurs and Bournemouth) gave us, for some reason it felt like plenty thought Everton would be tougher than they were – but their opening matches certainly hadn’t implied that.

Thankfully for us, that was exactly how it worked out as although we again showed we have plenty of improvements still to make (Everton dominated the statistics, but only managed one effort on target), we were clinical and scored twice from three goal bound efforts.

Record signing Wesley opened his account for the club in the 21st minute, before Anwar El Ghazi added a second to make it 2-0 five minutes into stoppage time.

Up to 11th as I type, our first top flight win since February 2016 and it allows Jack Grealish to say the ultimate words to those in the media harping about his PL record.

A sentiment we all no doubt echo!
