This afternoon Aston Villa have confirmed that we have appointed former West Bromwich Albion goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler to head coach Dean Smith’s backroom team.

The 42-year-old now makes the short switch from The Hawthorns to Villa Park as he begins work in his new role with us, and he has been with the Baggies since last January in the same job.

During his playing days, he represented over ten clubs as he was much travelled, but game time wise, his spells at Stoke City and Rotherham United stand out. He did spend a couple of years with us as those with a long memory may know, but he only made a single first-team appearance as a substitute in our colours.

I would imagine our backroom team is now completely in place, and the goalkeeper coach slot had been an obvious spot we needed to fill, and now Cutler is in place, hopefully, we’ll start to see a significant improvement in Orjan Nyland’s form as he continues to adjust to the club and country.
