Nigel Reo-Coker says that Villa have bagged a star with the signing of Ashley Young and says he could be a big player for England in the European Under-21 Championships.

Young joins up with Gary Cahill and hopefully soon to be Villa team mate NRC to play the Czech Republic on Monday. Reo-Coker says of the former Watford player on the FA site:

‘Ashley’s debut in Switzerland was long overdue, but he’s been given a chance now and has taken it. He has done very well for the Under-21s and his move to Aston Villa is a massive loss for Watford. He is so talented and is a player that I remember playing against in the Championship. Ashley is a very gifted, team player and can create and score goals.’

And on Villa defender Gary Cahill he added:

‘Gary joined up with the squad for the Spain game. Although I didn’t get the chance to really get to know him I have played against him before and know he’s a very good defender, tall and powerful.’

He also says he is staying clear of transfer issues and focusing on England at the moment. Reports today in the News of the World suggest that West Ham are holding out for £10million for their midfield captain after Villa targeted him at around £7million.

NRC said in The Times:

‘My main focus is on England’s Under 21s. We’re going to try and win the tournament and that’s all I’m thinking about at the moment. Everything else that happens will take care of itself. I’ve been in the Under 21s for a while and it’s the best bunch of players I’ve been with. Everyone has played at least half a season in the Premiership and we’ve got so many talented individuals.’
