Following last weekend’s derby day defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, some Aston Villa fans have been seeking the positives following the confirmation that midfielder John McGinn will now serve an automatic two match ban after picking up ten yellows this season.
The 24-year-old made it ten for the campaign at Villa Park last weekend and he will now miss upcoming clashes with Stoke City and Derby County, but it should mean he’s well rested for the Birmingham City match.
Plenty of fans on social media reacting to the news actually saw that as a positive given the common belief he carries our midfield with his efforts, but it also represents an opportunity for someone else to step up and impress in his absence.
We’re building a team. With McGinn out let’s see who steps in. We need to be about more than one person or even a handful of people. All hands on deck.

Given how impressive McGinn has largely been since his arrival over the summer from Hibernian, we’ve all seen how losing key individuals has costs us already this year, so if there is a positive to take it has to be in the team stepping up properly in a way we haven’t seen for a while.
