I`m sorry but just what the hell is going on at Villa?

We`ve been winning pre-season games, we`ve had happy excited players, the fans aren`t killing each other on the forums and the moaning has gone from 99% to just the odd grumble.

This will never do!

The latest in this scandal is Stephen Ireland who told Paul Brown at www.avfc.co.uk he can`t wait for the new season and he can visibly see the difference in the other players attitudes as well.

Well, he bloody well better be on top form next season, I`ve put him in my Footie Fantasy team…!

What? Yes, yes, you can join the Vital Villa fantasy league as well: Click Here

Where was I?

Oh yes, Ireland says:

‘The manager has pretty much been saying ‘we have to score, keep the ball and get the ball through good running’.

Bugger, so we are not only going to attack the opposition but also shoot and try to score? We`ve not done that for years, so why the big change all of a sudden?!

The confidence in all the players is sky high at the moment and it’s nice to see because I think the club deserve better and the fans deserve better than what’s been happening. “

Adding that he is looking forward to a really positive season and even within the few weeks Paul Lambert has been here, he says you can tell the difference as the players are ‘developing and learning`.

‘You can see the boys are willing to have the ball under pressure. There is no hiding place anymore really, you can’t hide behind certain players or rely on certain players to win the ball anymore, we all have to do it for the team.”

Brilliant, because for at least the last three seasons, the players looked petrified on the ball, they just wanted to offload and were encouraged by at least two of the last three mangers to simply hoof it up and then ‘leg it` towards the ball, like you used to play on the playground at school…!

He says he is personally excited and “I can’t wait for the season to start to be honest.’

Great, the excitement of the team will no doubt be picked up by the fans who are also – it seems – buzzing. The atmosphere at Villa Park could be back to the good times next season, can`t be worse than the last few silent years at least. Hey, maybe even the Holte End will be able to sing something other than Blues songs?

Ok, don`t go too far Fear, one step at a time!
