What Would It Take For You To Back McLeish?

What would it take for you to back McLeish?

What would it take for me to like McLeish?

I was sat there pondering this after the Bolton game. The anger amongst fellow Villans has been steadily increasing towards our beleaguered manager, with the recent poll showing a massive 96% in favour of ‘Out the door’ (myself included among that number).

A combination of a less than credible track record, poor tactics, negative play, dodgy signings (step forwards Hutton and Jenas), refusing to take any blame for poor form, and not least of all being the ex-bluenose boss had many a Villan spitting feathers both at his appointment, and our recent patchy form. I genuinely believed (and I bet I’m not alone), that a loss against a bottom-of-the-league Bolton side would spell the beginning of the end of what has been a dire appointment by Randy & Co.

Now, I personally do believe that Randy, overall, has still done a decent job as chairman. We cannot deny that he’s put money into the club (not as much as maybe we’d have liked when you balance up what he’s recuperated by the sales of Milner/Barry/Young/Downing et al), but nevertheless, he has spent.

HOWEVER, the appointment of McLeish was always going to be an aberration – it was like having had a brand new Porsche, which you’ve kept and loved for years, and then your dad removing the engine, and replacing it with a 1-litre Corsa unit, claiming it’s more economical: overall, it’s still the car you loved and cherished, built it’s tainted… not the same… ruined in your eyes.

The plummeting gates are sadly testimony to this fact, as fans vote with their feet in protest of this clanger. I must also stress that although i was bitterly disappointed with the appointment, i was still very much willing to ‘give him a go’ as were many other fans, but recent performances have only proved to solidify the belief that he isn’t the man for the job and never was. I’d even go so far as to say… and it hurts to say it, but i doubt I’m alone here… that i NEARLY hoped we’d lose to Bolton. Terrible i know, but if it’s the only way we can rid ourselves of this clown? However, to get back on topic, maybe results will pick up? Maybe we’ll start to climb up the table towards the 7th/8th position?

More likely is that we could have a good cup run? So i started to ask myself, what could McLeish do to win me over? I think the answer to that starts with positive tactics and selections, good results – not just against bottom clubs, oh, and no Heskey. So hopefully Fear will allow me to put a poll together – what can McLeish do to win the hearts of us Villans, or is it never going to happen? For me, sadly, I’d probably need a cup and champions league, and we probably know that’s not going to happen any time soon….

Our poll asks the same question.
