With some hope and expectation that we’ll start to see Aston Villa make some concrete moves in the transfer market this week with players now back in training, head coach Dean Smith has confirmed that talks have now been held with new Sporting Director Johan Lange and our plans are now in place.

Having survived relegation by the skin of our teeth in the 2019/20 campaign, everyone wants to see significant improvement in 2020/21 and although we should see that now the players have 12 months under their belts, no one can deny we need three or four quality additions to really kick us on this year.

Speaking to Villa TV recently to look ahead to the coming season, on the topic of transfers Smith said.

“Wheels are in motion, that was the reason I stopped back, to sit down with Johan and strategically plan what we are going to do. Nobody is satisfied with finishing 17th in the league – owners, supporters, players and coaching staff. So we need to improve the squad. We improved after the lockdown and Project Restart and we need to improve again because we don’t want a season of struggles.”

With 12 players arriving last year, there’s no way we should be that busy again but with whatever budget we have available, we need to be looking at quality additions who walk straight into the first team, so fans should definitely be happy to hear his words about not being satisfied last season and wanting more for this year.
