Where’s Your Bielsa Gone – Villa Take Comfortable Leeds Win – Match Stats
It’s what Thursday night’s were made for – a trip up to Elland Road where Aston Villa were hoping to put in a similar performance to our fantastic Southampton showing and absolutely hammer Marcelo Bielsa-less Leeds United.
It was a mixed start from us again in reality but as the minutes ticked by we did show improvement and started edging ourselves on top and 22 minutes in our little magician Philippe Coutinho had given us the advantage with another tidy finish – although it did get a little bit of help to flummox the keeper.
Around the half hour mark Ollie Watkins had the perfect chance to make it 2-0 but the control was poor and he wasted it, but we were clearly the better side against the lumpy cloggers. The next best chance fell to John McGinn as the half came to a close, but his effort was well saved – Leeds did finish the half making more of a game of it though.
So to the second period, head coach Steven Gerrard made no changes and we quickly had a scare until Matty Cash got a good block in.
It was a pretty scrappy second half, and Leeds were definitely more in it and in a pretty end to end game, we finally made life a little bit easier for ourselves as Cash added a goal to his earlier assist with 25 remaining on the clock.
In the 73rd minute things got even better for Villa as Tyrone Mings laid the ball off to Calum Chambers who rifled it into the top left hand corner for 3-0.
It was the hammering we all wanted by the full time whistle.
